Greedy charity knitting

12 pair of baby socks all finished and ready to be sent off to Afghans for Afghans. These were such fun to make that I just couldn't seem to stop myself. After the 6th pair I kept saying, "Ok this is the last pair" but somehow I kept casting on "just one more pair."

So now I've finished all my greedy charity knitting for now and must get back to the other things. Yes that's my new term: Greedy Charity Knitting. But how could doing something for charity be thought of as greedy?

In the past I've always selected a charity and supported in thru the year. This year I decided to do something a little different. I decide what it is I want to obsessively knit and then I do a little investigation to find a group who will take my finished items.

I wanted to knit a few 5 hr baby sweaters so I did and then donated them to a local pregnancy center. I wanted to knit some kids socks in worsted weight yarn so I did a sent them off to cic. I was clicking around and saw A4A needed baby socks and decided that I wanted to knit baby socks. So all my donations this year are based on what I want to make.

So I've coined the term greedy charity knitting because the first thing it fills is my need to make a specific thing. I like greedy charity knitting and will probably do more of that in the coming years. It makes knitting fun.

I think it is a good idea to work with what you're interested in for the charities. You skip the guilty part of "I should be working on X for Y charity," and skip straight to I love making X, what charity will take it.

Those socks make me want to say "Smashing, Simply Smashing!"

What colorful socks! I love your creative photography. I completely agree with you on knitting what you enjoy and donate to whoever needs it. They are all good causes and your knitting is always appreciated.

What cute socks! If you're going to do charity knitting, you might as well knit something you enjoy. That's the perfect term for it.

I too am a greedy charity knitter. I find it much more enjoyable to be knitting some thing in mass quantities if I am liking it. All the little socks look fantastic.

Those are adorable. I'm not into sock knitting, but I may just have to knit some for my daughter (who loves socks, especially taking them off and on).

OMG these are adorable!!! I know you used regular sock yarn. How many did you cast on?? And what sized needles?? VERY cute and I love to see them all together like that.

I've sort of gone that way too. Instead of trying to fill every need for my favorite charity, I only knit the items I love to make. The socks you knitted are so cute! No wonder you had a hard time stopping.

Saw these on 25 Things, but just had to stop on over here and check out your other productions, as I do from time to time. I love your Greedy Charity Knitting term. I had to look for places that were looking for quilts because I can't crochet well and I never caught on at my first attempt to knit. Ppl say I should try again, that it's good for the soul. (It was anything but good for my soul when I failed so miserably, but I must give it another chance. What would suggest I start with--please advise me on needles, yarn, pattern, and simple goal. Something very forgiving!! I think I still have the needles I tried to learn with. They (I think) are number 10 wooden, whatever that means. The only lingo I remember is "cast on" and 'frog". I used the frogging quite a bit.
