Contest time!

Take a look at these ....

and these too. I entered all this in a local grange fair over the weekend and took home 2 blue ribbons, 1 red and 1 white.
Here's the contest: Try to guess which 2 things won first place in their division. The prize will be a couple balls of some sock yarn (colorways to be determined after some stash diving). Winner will be determined on September 24th.

Hmmmm this is a hard one! First of all, you should have one more than 2 first place ribbons. You did such a great job on everything!! But here are my ideas. I say the jumper dress came in first and the feather and fan shawl. Am I close???

Congrats on all the ribbons! That's excellent!

What a hard choice, to figure out what won. I'm gong to guess the green shawl and the baby dress. That's hard though!

I'm rather partial to that green shawl, so I'd guess that has to be a first place. The baby dress is very very cute, it'd be unfair if it didn't win. But really, it's a tough choice.

if I had to guess, I'd say the green shawl and the blue dress, however, they all are gorgeous!!!

Congrats on your ribbons!

I'm going to go with the little blue jumper and the socks.

Tough choice they all look lovely, but I reckon the red shawl, and the blue baby dress...Congratualtions to you though!

congratulations!
I am thinking the jumper and the green shawl

I am going to say the felted items and the red lace item.

I'm going to guess the blue jumper dress, though I love the green sweater and hat, and the red feather and fan scarf/shawl

Congratulations on two ribbons! It's tough to choose, but I'll say the little green sweater & hat combo, and the felted bag.

Congrats on the ribbons! I think they all should have won. I'm going to guess the felted bags and the red shawl got the ribbons.

I'm going to guess the blue dress and the red shaw, they look like the kinda thing judges would like....I think.

I'm really happy that you entered! If I've learned anything about these competitions-- it's that you never can tell what the judges are going to say, or what they're going to pick.

Usually baby item competition is packed full of entries, but that blue dress is just too cute. It must have won a blue ribbon.

Sock competition is also usually really tight (you know, gauge on the kitchner deciding between red or blue kind of tight), so I'm going to guess for the second- the felted bag ensemble.

Great work all around!

They're all really lovely things, but I'd say the shawl and the blanket. For some reason, at my fair, the judges preferred lacy things.

All of the projects are worthy of a blue ribbon, but I'm going to guess the blue baby dress and the green shawl. Congratulations on your wins!

Congratulations on the ribbons!

I'll guess that the blue dress and the red shawl/scarf? received the blue ribbons.

i guess the blue baby dress and the felted items (are they together??)
the fair people seem to be in love with felted items (is my experience)
congrats on placing--my knitting and spinning didn't win anything, just my bread and salsa this year!!!

How about the blue jumper and the green shawl?

Baby dress and tomato bisque shawl? (the one under the green shawl)

The blue dress and the green sweater---which is very pretty, btw.

Karen said...

Woo hoo! Congratulations! I think it was the green shawl and the baby dress.

Congrats on the ribbons!

Ok, I would guess that the felted bag got you one, unless you count each project, then it got you two. If the bags count as one, I'd say that the sock was the other first place.

personally I think they ALL should be first place winners, but being a knitter, I'm biased.

COngratulations! Everything is so gorgeous but I'm going to guess that the flowered baby jumper and the green shawl took home first prize. That jumper is precious!

Congrats! Looks like a lot of work! I would guess the socks and the felted bag. In the baby category, there were probably a lot of sewn entries and in the shawl category I think woven stuff would be popular. But they all look like winners to me!

I am going to say the blue dress was a blue ribbon based on the fact that there is a lot of detail work. The color changes, embroidery, cables, and shirring look "right".

Tough decision on the other blue. The red shawl is a simple pattern but well done. Some judges might say that the variegations in the green shawl are distracting from the stitch pattern but I think it "works" so the green shawl is blue #2.

Red ribbon goes to the cap and sweater set based on the bobbles and the way that the purple buttons pick up the flecks in the yarn.

White ribbon goes to the felted set for the beautiful colors.

If I were the actual judge, I would also be looking at the wrong side and the seams (if any). These are the areas where many knitters get sloppy.

There you have it: judging by trek.

I think the little blue dress and the red shawl.

Congrats! I'm going to guess the booga bag and the wine (?) colored shawl.

Everything looks so nice.....hard to choose but if I had to guess I would say the green sweater/cap set and the socks.

Congratulations! Came over from Chris.. those are all really nice. Here's my guess (not necessarily my favorites), the blue girl's dress, and the green shawl.

Congrats on the ribbons. I think the blue dress and the red shawl won the blue ribbons.

Periwinkle dress and green shawl? Congratulations!

I'm going to guess the blue baby dress and the red shawl.

Also, that's so exciting! I was at a fair this weekend too but I didn't enter anything. I should have!

I'm going to guess the baby jumper and the red shawl, but everything is beautiful.

Gosh, I always get these things wrong! Knowing how much work goes into each one vs my personal taste and color love!...they all look beautiful..lucky family!!!

I guess the embroidered baby dress and the green shawl.

catsmum said...

I'm going with the wee dress and the green shawl.

Patricia said...

I would have to pick the little blue dress and the green shawl. All your entries are loverly.

Well, I have always wondered where they get the judges for our fair. It seems to be based more on personal preference here, so you just never can tell. But I am going to guess the jumper and the booga bag ensemble.
They all look wonderful!!!

TeaMouse said...

My guess would be the green shawl and the little blue dress(both are amazing btw)!

Mia said...

I pick the blue dress and the green shawl... but since everyone else picked that.. then I'll choose the blue dress and the felted bag!! Cuz sometimes judges are funny :)

Awesome!

Thanks for stopping by with encouraging words!

Everything looks great, but if I had to guess, I'd say the blue baby dress and the, oh, tough choice, green shawl.

Anonymous said...

All of your items are just beautiful! If I had to choose....I'd say the blue baby dress and green shawl.

This is tough! I think the little blue jumper dress ans the varigated green shawl. Too bad thy all didn't win something... They are all beautiful!

I tried not to read any comments, so as to have an unbiased opinion ... I asaw a few though, but they did not shake my resolve -- the winners (IMHO) were the fleted bag, and the green baby sweater (although it was a hard choice ... everything is lovely, and well knit. Thank heavens I am not a judge at a fair -- I would never be able to choose!) You did well ... prizes for 4 of the 6 items you entered! Betcha not many others there could say the same thing!

wenat said...

I think it was the blue baby dress and the green shawl -- and congrats on the prizes!

Anonymous said...

My guess, and it looks like most, the blue dress and the green shawl. Job well done on all your knitting! congratulations!

Anonymous said...

Gosh, they're all lovely! Congrats on your success at the fair!

I have no idea what judges look for, but I'll guess the socks and the felted combo took the ribbons.

Ruth said...

Hmmm....how about the blue jumper and the felted items? Congrats on all the ribbons!

Tabitha said...

Going to try this again since blogger seems to be eating my comments.
Without knowing how many different categories your knits would have been classified into, I would say the blue baby dress because the picot edging and hand embroidery really carry it to the next level. And the green shawl because I really like the color (yes that is a really technical criterion.)

Deborah said...

I'd guess the socks and the little girl dress. All are fantastic though!

Deby said...

ohhh what a glorious array of eye candy! I pick them all! You win! I really am drawn to the green shawl. Beautiful!
