$32.70

Thank you nice mailman. Yarn for N's socks $32.70. I also got The Opinionated Knitter which I've wanted for quite a while. Books, needles, patterns, stitch markers, etc don't count toward my yarn purchases since I consider them tools of my hobby. Yarn is obviously a tool too but You don't get to use it over and over again ..... unless you frog unloved and unfinished projects.

So I'm involved in a swap and just getting the box together to send out. My partner doesn't like wool. She crochets. She likes to crochet with acrylic. Acrylic as in trip to walmart acrylic. And although I never thought of myself as a yarn snob all I could think of was, "OMG! She'll think I'm cheap sending off acrylic yarn."

I don't think I'm a real yarn snob. I just like to knit with a nice, soft wool. Or some alpaca. Maybe a good blend, too. But rarely do I use acrylic. And then all of a sudden it dawned on me that I was putting together a box for someone else and should go with their preferences. So I'm off in a little while to pick up some nice acrylic and yummy goodies to send off to my exchange pal.

I so love goodies in the mail even if they are goodies that I ordered. :~)

I prefer wool but I also use acrylic on occasion. My preference to use that's 100% acrylic is Caron's Simply Soft since it's softer then Red Heart which just seems to scratchy. If I can, I try to go with Plymouth Encore, the little bit of wool blended with the acrylic makes it so soft. :~)

Thank goodness I don't have wool allergies!

You know, I'm a bit of a yarn snob too (go Merino!), but I am also a big fan of acrylic. My personal favorite is Caron Simply Soft, and Walmart carries a million shades of it. It's soft (I think it's softer than Malabrigo, actually), indestructible, and 100% washable. Have fun!

and speaking of yarn snobbery, I just finished knitting a huge project using some wool I purchased at a wool fest. Then, I pick up some Patons wool to make a bag - that stuff felt like steel wool!

It is not snobbery it is a simple observation.

It's always fun to get packages in the mail, even when it's something you ordered. I don't often knit with acrylic but it does have its uses.

Are N's feet really that big? That's a lot of yarn! -teehee
Is that one of the new colors of Essential or did you try one of KP's new varieties? If it is one of their new yarns let me know what you think of it. Doesn't getting new yarn make you feel special. Love that color. I have got to order an EZ book while KP has their book sale going. Might have to order a bit of yarn as well.

Of course yarn is a tool, also a renewable energy source, home insulation, entertainment, medication, not to mention clothing which should never be restricted.

Cheers :-)

oh yes, I almost forgot...on most of those packages and swaps the key is nice presentation and attention to little details.... so you can fill it with a lot of cheap yarn, and then add in some other lovely stuff...beautiful tissue, fake flowers, handsewn drawstring bags..... just a few ideas... I am in a tea swap with a gal, and yesterday I went to the yarn shop and am ashamed to say I cannot part with the yarn I bought for her.....
