One year of blogging

Yup tomorrow is a full year of blogging for me. It's been a great way of keeping me on task with my knitting so that I actually finish stuff. Along the way I've met some wonderful fellow craft people with amazing skills.

So in honor of this feat in my blogging career I feel a contest is needed. How about a couple skeins of Opal sock yarn? Sock yarn? I know what a shock! Drawing will be Friday July 13th at 12 noon est.

Here the contest question: What's the best compliment you've ever received?

My best compliment was from my grandson W. I had received some cookies and was giving him one when he came out with: You know Gram, you are a very good sharer.

My daughter scraped her knee up the other day and after I had finished covering it with bandaids, she threw her arms around me and said "Mama, you are the bestest Mama ever, ever born!". That was the best compliment I've gotten so far.

I have a friend whose Mom recently passed and I was talking with her and just listening as that what she seemed to need and out of the blue she says, "I want to be you when I grow up" That to me was one of the most flattering things I ever heard anyone say to me.

Happy Blogiversary!

One of the best compliments came from my oldest daughter. I'd gave her some swatches I was finished with and after she's inspected said swatches she told me I was the best knitter and mommy ever.
She's still using the swatches for blankies for her beanie babies. :~)

I believe the best compliment I ever got was a friend of mine who simply said "thank you for being you".

Um. The first one I thought of was my mum telling me I was the tower of strength in the family.

I can't think of a single compliment right now, so I'll have to come back when I think of something. :)

I love it when my kids' friends tell them that I am a cool mom, and the fact that they all want to be at our house. But I love it when my youngest daughter says "you rock , Mom" I think that is still a compliment. Happy Blogiversary!

The best one definitely has to be from my friend Tiphanie, who told me I inspired her as a knitter. Since she's the one who taught me how to knit, that means a lot!

Happy blogiversary! Oh, that's a good question - and a hard one. Hmm... Ok, when a 15 month old that I spend some time with sees me, she beams and me and starts to clap her hands and wave. That's an amazing compliment.

A parent at school recently told me that I had inspired her 1st grader to become a Librarian when she grows up. Many times this year they have had to go out and buy a book that I had read to her class. It made me smile that I could have such an impact on so many kids lives.

I'm a school counselor in junior high. Just after school got out, I was closing up my office for summer when an older student came to visit me. The face was familiar, but the name eluded me. "Ms. Y, my name is so-and-so. I just wanted to let you know that I graduated. If it wasn't for you helping me in junior high, I don't think I would have stayed in school." Those moments are few and far between, but make it all worth it!

happy Blogiversary.

the best compliment i ever recieved was last summer when a student told someone else...when asked about me and the program they were participating: "she said, you know that there are those teachers that are 1 in a million? Ms V is that 1." Its something I carry with me always and hope to be that for another student :-) (get teary eyed every time i hear it)

The best compliment I've ever received was from my youngest daughter. She said that I'm her bestest friend and that she's never going to move away.

Congratulations on your one year blogiversary!

My 5 and 3 year old recently complimented me on an outfit I wore to a baptism. They don't see me in skirts or dressed up much. They both said I looked pretty. My daughter said that I looked, "like a princess."

My most recent best compliment ever was just last night when Knitty Hubby told me that the BFL I'd spun was my best spinning ever!

I'm not sure if it's the best one ever, but a recent one that I really appreciated was a family friend telling me that I reminded him of my dad.

Happy Blogiversary! We're all glad that you joined us. I love reading your posts about your grandkids. They're adorable!

I've got two to share. They're my best compliments in very different ways.

When I was in Women and Creativity in college one assignment was to interview a creative woman we admire. One woman in the class interviewed me.

On a more family orientated level, for a class assignment my little sister had to write a free form poem about her favorite thing. She wrote it about me and the last line is "My favorite thing is just being with my big sister every single day." I've got it hanging on my wall right now.

Congratulations on your Blogiversary! My best compliment I can think of is from my precious husband who, when confronted with some of my weird, hippie, pagan, Jewish-mother, crazy-cat-lady knitterliness says, (quoting Shakespeare, "Antony & Cleopatra")": "Age cannot whither nor custom stale, her infinite variety." This is a huge compliment to my "diverse self" (nevermind being compared to Cleopatra!)

When my mom, as she was dying, thanked me for taking care of her so well.
Saying that to me made it just a teensy bit easier to lose her (oh well...okay, that's a lie, nothing really made losing her any easier!)

But no one has ever said anything better!
Happy Blogaversary!
(((hugs)))

I am a nurse, I work one week- off the next. Sometimes when on my first day back, a patient or a family member will tell me "I am so glad you are back!"
But that doesn't come close to last year at my daughter's 11th birthday, all her friends told her she had a cool mom!

My best friend tends to pick on me til I punch him in the arm. He once told me, "You hit harder then any girl I know. And most guys, too."

well I don't know about best but certainly most memorable was being told by a sports store clerk that her professional body builder hubby would KILL [ her emphasis not mine ] for my legs. Just what every girl wants to hear!!

My best compliment came from my father when I was an adult. I've lived alone on 40 acres most of my adult life. I raise dogs, have raised chickens, ducks and turkeys. One day my dad was here when I was trying to fix something (don't even remeber any more) and he said, "You would have made a good farmer because you can make what you need from whatever you have on hand." Made my day - and many days since.

I can't choose, but the top two best compliments I've received are both based on my children. The first was when I was eating breakfast at a Friendly's restaurant with my boys. I think they were about 5 and 8 at the time. An older woman passed our table on her way out and stopped to comment on how lovely my children were behaved. They and I couldn't stop beaming for about a day or two! (Good to know I'd done something right, ya know?)

The other was when my younger son was 6 and was at the barber. When the barber asked what I wanted done, I said that my son could choose whatever he wanted. My son asked for a Mowhawk and when I said to go ahead, a teen waiting for his turn asked if I was serious. I said sure, and the teen said, "Wow... you are about the coolest mom ever!" Yeah, that made my day.

Happy Blogiversary...aren't you glad you decided to blog. I actually just blogged about your question (more or less). This is the most recent and therefore the current best "compliment " I have ever had. I guess it is just a oommment but I look at it as a compliment. Though I have 7 kids, 3 are away at overnight camp (14,12,10) and I couldn't convince the oldest three(21,18,16) that are around to stick with Mom and Dad for the evening and come to see fireworks. So it was me, my husband and our "baby"...the 5 year old. here is what I blogged

NOTHING is better then the 4th of July with a 5 year old boy on your lap who literally vibrates with pure excitement..no fear...and makes little silly comments of pleasure including little elevations of his body with each and every snap crackle and KABOOM of fireworks and then just grabs your face with his filthyfromplayingoutsideallday hands and mashes a kiss into your face and says (just like you say to him) "I just love you and love you".
Seriously.

To me a spontaneous outburst of affection is the best compliment ever!

My best knitting compliment came a few weeks ago. I had made a baby dress, diaper cover, and socks for her new baby. She told me they were "perfect". I chose a very funky skein of Malabrigo because I knew she wouldn't want another "pink" thing. She was thrilled with the figt and I was thrilled with the compliment.

My favorite compliment was being told "you're a good listener" by a friend who needed someone to listen, not advise.

congratulations on the anniversary!

Don't know if this was a compliment or not, but it made me laugh...

I'm a high school teacher and I use my eyes a lot to discipline often I don't need to speak, just look and raise an eyebrow. When I was teaching year 9 one of the students said:

"Miss, can you not look at us like that when we are in trouble, it's scarier than my dad's angry face!"

i think the compliment that comes from the bag boy at the grocery store when he bags my groceries, is best:
he always calls me "ma'am" and has been since i moved here (when i was 23)

ma'am at 23? that either makes me look old, or mature.
since usually people think i'm 12, i'll take it as a compliment!!

Wandered over from Stumbling Over Chaos' blog! The best compliment ever was from a nurse while I was pregnant. I was 8 months along, and hopped on the scale, topping out at over, well, a lot of pounds! She said to me "Wow! You really carry a lot of weight very well!" Thanks!

Congratulations :)

I'd have to say the best compliment I ever got was from my dad on my prom night - he told me I looked beautiful, and it was special to me because it was one of the few times I didn't get the 'pretty is as pretty does' speech he was famous for haha

I stumbled across my best warm fuzzy the other day when I was looking through my "official documents" folder... When my daughter (now 8) was in preschool, we went to a Thanksgiving party at her preschool. Each of the kids had completed the =name= is thankful for... sentence. I was amused to read about dogs and Power Rangers and Barbie castles and all kinds of toys, right up until I got to the last one, my daughter's. She wrote ... is thankful for her mommy and daddy and brother. And I'm thankful to have that paper to remind me just what I'm thankful for too :*)

Happy blogiversary!

The best compliment I ever received was from someone I don't like very much. Which is odd. But she complimented my way of speaking, or the way I use words. It was a long time ago, but I remember feeling surprised that someone else appreciated my language style. Which totally isn't coming across in this comment, so you'll just have to trust me. :)
